Membangun Kesadaran Pengolahan Sampah di Asrmama Nurul lIhsan Pondok Pesantren Salafiah Syafiiyah Sukorejo Situbondo

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, known as pesantren, are significant educational institutions based on Islamic principles in Indonesia. They play a crucial role in the nation's history, having produced many notable figures, some of whom have been designated as national heroes. These schools have demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of changing times.

Recently, the Nurul Ihsan Dormitory at the Salafiah Syafi'iyah Islamic Boarding School in Sukorejo, Situbondo, conducted a workshop focused on waste management tailored to the needs of Islamic boarding schools. This workshop equipped students with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in managing waste by developing appropriate technologies using locally available materials.

The technologies created include a composting trash bin and bioactivator liquid, which serve as tools for converting organic waste into fertiliser and planting mediums. Additionally, a waste ATM was introduced for sorting recyclable plastic waste, such as bottles and cups, along with metals that possess economic value. Furthermore, used drums were repurposed as environmentally friendly incinerators for dealing with non-recyclable plastics and other waste, including used sanitary napkins.
